Famous Historical Figures in the Ming Dynasty

The Ming Dynasty is known as the Empire of the Great Ming, was the ruling dynasty in China throughout the years 1368-1644, it was considered one of the greatest eras of orderly government and social stability in human history. Several people over the years have played an important role in making China the nation it is today.

1. Yu Qian
Yu QianYu Qian is a famous loyal official, he was born in Qiantang of Zhejiang Province in the Ming Dynasty. Yu Qian was an honest and incorruptible person. During his tenure as an official, he dared to plead for the people, promoted what was beneficial and abolished what was harmful to the people. Yu Qian, Yue Fei and Zhang Cangshui were collectively called "Three Heroes of the West Lake". They were all great national heroes.

2. Hongwu Emperor
The Hongwu Emperor known variably by his given name Zhu Yuanzhangand by his temple name Hongwu EmperorTaizu of Ming was the founder and first emperor of the Ming Dynasty of China. His era name, Hongwu, means "vastly martial". Rebel and overthrown the Yuan rulers. In the middle of the 14th century, with famine, plagues and peasant revolts sweeping across China, Zhu became a leader of an army that conquered China, ending the Yuan Dynasty and forcing the Mongols to retreat to the Mongolian steppes. With his seizure of the Yuan capital (present-day Beijing), he claimed the Mandate of Heaven and established the Ming Dynasty in 1368.Most of the historical sites related to Zhu Yuanzhang are located in Nanjing, the capital of his dynasty.

3. Li Shizhen
Li shizhenLi Shizhen was a great medical and pharmaceutical expert. He was born in the reign of Emperor Zhengde of the Ming Dynasty (1518) in Qichun, Hubei Province. Compendium of Materia Medica, revised and compiled by him, is a great collection of traditional Chinese herbal medicine. It is called "the Great Pharmacopoeia in the East".During his practice, he cured many disputed and difficult diseases and quickly established his fame. Later he was granted a post in the Imperial Hospital in the capital.

4. Liu Bowen
Liu Ji style name Bowen, was a key military consultant of Zhu Yuanzhang. Liu Bowen showed great intelligence and talents since childhood.Liu bowen Edified by his family, he was keen on learning and thinking; he liked reading, and was well acquainted with Confucian and other ancient Chinese classics in pre-Qin times; in particular, he dived into the research of astronomy, geography, military science, astrology etc, and learnt quite a lot from them. He had an extremely good memory, and was able to recite the content after reading it only once; he had a superb style of writing, his articles having uncommonly insight.

5. Emperor Wuzong
Emperor Wuzong of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Houzhao, was a son of Emperor Xiaozong Zhu Youtang and the tenth emperor of the Ming Dynasty. His reign was from 1505 AD to Emperor Wuzong1521 AD under the era name of Zhengde. Emperor Wuzong was a controversial emperor in history. Some argued that he was incontinent, violent, weird, shameless and fatuous, but some others believed, on the basis of historical research in recent years, that he was an emperor with strong personality who pursued individual liberation, freedom and equality.
