Introduction of Transformed Cognates

Characters in this category originally didn't represent exactly the same meaning but have bifurcated by way of orthographic and typically semantic drift. For instance, (kǎo) to verify and (lǎo) old were once the same character, meaning "elderly person", but detached into two separate words. Characters of this category are uncommon, so in contemporary systems this group is frequently omitted or combined with others.
